Pull-ups have always been one of my favorite exercise snacks.

When I’m on vacation or have a busy day, I may not have time for a full gym session, but I can almost always find a place to knock out a few pull-ups, push-ups, or bodyweight squats.

These small bursts of movement throughout the day add up. More importantly, they help me feel better physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Don’t underestimate what a few minutes of movement can do. You don’t always need a perfect workout, sometimes you just need to keep showing up.

What’s your favorite exercise snack or activity?

Omega-3 Index (O3I) testing measures the percentag
Omega-3 Index (O3I) testing measures the percentage of EPA and DHA—the two most well studied omega-3 fatty acids found within red blood cell membranes. Unlike a standard fatty acid test, the Omega-3 Index reflects long term omega-3 status over the previous several months and provides insight into cardiovascular, brain, inflammatory, and recovery health.

Clinical experience and research in the U.S. shows that a large percentage of most individuals fall below the optimal range, often due to low intake of fatty fish and increased consumption of processed omega-6-rich foods. Low omega-3 levels have been associated with increased inflammation, slower recovery, poorer cardiovascular health, and impaired cognitive performance.

An Omega-3 Index of 8% or greater is generally considered optimal for overall health, but emerging research suggests athletes may benefit from even higher levels due to increased oxidative stress, inflammation, and recovery demands associated with intense training. Although specific cut-off guidelines for athletes have not been universally established, current research suggests a target range of approximately 8–11% may be ideal for supporting performance, recovery, cardiovascular function, and resilience.

One important thing to understand is that a high fish intake or regular fish oil supplementation does not always mean your omega-3 levels are actually optimal. Quality matters. Absorption matters. And getting enough EPA and DHA for your specific goals matters. Some fish oil supplements contain lower-quality oils, inadequate EPA/DHA amounts, or oxidized fats that may not produce meaningful changes in Omega-3 Index levels.

Interestingly, populations in Japan—where fish intake is traditionally much higher have consistently demonstrated lower cardiovascular risk and significantly higher omega-3 levels compared to Western populations (PMID: 16401768).

The takeaway? Don’t assume. Test.

If you would like upgraded lab work and a personalized review of your Omega-3 status and overall health markers, send us a message or comment “LABS” and we’ll reach out with more information.

Most people assume sun exposure = optimal Vitamin
Most people assume sun exposure = optimal Vitamin D levels, but that’s not always the case.

Even in sunny environments, Vit D levels can often fall short due to:
• Indoor lifestyles
• Sunscreen use
• Skin tone
• Timing of exposure
.. and more!

And it matters 👇
Vitamin D plays a major role in immune function, hormones, recovery, and energy.

Common signs of low Vitamin D:
• Fatigue / low energy
• Frequent illness
• Low mood
• Poor recovery
• Muscle or joint aches

👉 Most people don't know that Magnesium is also essential for Vitamin D—it helps activate and convert Vitamin D into its usable form
👉 Some people also have VDR (Vitamin D receptor) genetic variants, which can impact how well they utilize Vitamin D

This is exactly why we don’t guess.

Vitamin D is routinely tested in our clinics so we can:
• Identify deficiencies early
• Personalize dosing (often D3 + K2)
• Help patients reach optimal—not just “normal”—ranges

👉 Don’t rely on standard lab ranges
👉 Test your levels
👉 Optimize if needed

Our Target Vit D range: 60–80 ng/mL

📩 Message us “LABS” if you want more information on our functional lab testing and how we can help you start to feel your best.

Vitamin C is often thought of only as an immune nu
Vitamin C is often thought of only as an immune nutrient, but its role in stress physiology is frequently overlooked.

Vitamin C is water-soluble, meaning many traditional forms are rapidly excreted.
Newer liposomal formulations allow vitamin C to remain in circulation longer, improving tissue availability during periods of increased demand.

In a clinical study of 69 women with functional hypercortisolemia due to chronic stress, researchers evaluated the effects of 1,000 mg daily oral ascorbic acid (vitamin C) over a 2-month period. Participants had elevated cortisol and/or DHEA-S levels and were divided into treated and untreated subgroups.

After 2 months of vitamin C supplementation:
• Cortisol levels significantly decreased in women with elevated cortisol
• DHEA-S levels declined closer to normal ranges
• No significant hormone changes were observed in untreated groups
Study link👉PMID:38010274

In addition to immune "boosting" properties-Vitamin C also serves as a key cofactor for collagen synthesis, influencing connective tissue health, vascular integrity, and recovery.

While vitamin C is generally easier to obtain from food compared to other nutrients, chronic stress increases utilization and accelerates depletion. In stressed individuals, supplementation may be beneficial — even when dietary intake appears sufficient.

Sometimes simple foundational nutrients can create big health shifts!

🧠 New Study Spotlight: Magnesium L-Threonate (Magt
🧠 New Study Spotlight: Magnesium L-Threonate (Magtein®) & Brain Health

A new randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial examined the effects of Magnesium L-threonate (Magtein®) on cognition and sleep in adults with self-reported poor sleep.

Study highlights:
• 100 adults (ages 18–45)
• 2 g daily of Magtein® vs placebo for 6 weeks
• Participants reported dissatisfied sleep

Key findings compared to placebo:
✔️ Improved overall cognitive performance (NIH Total Cognition Composite, p = 0.043)
✔️ Larger effects on working memory & episodic memory
✔️ 7.5-year reduction in estimated brain cognitive age
✔️ Faster reaction time
✔️ Improvements in HR and HRV
✔️ Subjective sleep improvements (even when objective sleep metrics didn’t fully change)

💭 My thoughts:
While this study didn’t compare Magtein® to other forms of magnesium (only placebo), the findings are still highly meaningful—especially when we’re talking about aging brains, cognitive resilience, and reversing “brain age.”

Magnesium plays a foundational role in synaptic signaling, neuroplasticity, and nervous system regulation. Seeing improvements in cognition and estimated brain age further reinforces why not all magnesium forms are created equal, and why form matters depending on the clinical goal.

📘 If you want to go deeper:
I break down the different forms of magnesium, what they do, and how to choose the right one in my book Magnesium Answers, available now on Amazon. It’s designed to help you make sense of the confusion and use magnesium strategically—not randomly.

Homocysteine doesn’t just affect the heart—it also
Homocysteine doesn’t just affect the heart—it also feeds directly into your body’s detox and antioxidant systems through the transulfuration pathway.

In this quick breakdown, I explain:
• What the transulfuration pathway is
• How homocysteine converts into glutathione
• Why methyl donors (b12,methyl folate), magnesium (atp), and sulfur amino acids (glutathione, taurine) matter for this pathway
• How this pathway protects your brain, blood vessels, and detox capacity

When this pathway isn’t working well, homocysteine can rise and glutathione can fall—creating more inflammation and oxidative stress.

👉 Comment “LABS” and I’ll send you the full-length video explaining what high homocysteine means, including its connection to blood pressure, heart health, and methylation.

I love goals. I’m constantly setting them, adjusting them, and chasing progress.

But when it comes to health, goals alone don’t always last.
Identity does. Let me explain 👇

James Clear talks about this in his book- Atomic Habits.

Real change happens when you stop focusing on what you want to achieve
and start focusing on who you want to become.

When you identify as a healthy person,
working out and eating well stop feeling like chores,
they become part of who you are.

That matters even more as a parent.
Our kids don’t just hear what we say… they watch what we do..

Let’s make this year the healthiest year yet for and your family.
It can all start with one small identity shift! 👊

Most people don’t realize that magnesium impacts n
Most people don’t realize that magnesium impacts nearly every system in the body — from muscles and nerves to sleep, mood, blood pressure, and digestion. It helps relax tight muscles, calm an overactive nervous system, support healthy bowel movements, and plays a role in managing migraines and hypertension.

Magnesium is involved in 600+ enzymatic reactions, yet stress, poor diet, medications, and modern lifestyles quietly deplete it — leaving many people out of balance without obvious symptoms.

Staying in optimal magnesium balance is an amazing health goal for 2026. Small, consistent health shifts (hydration, food selection, exercise, stress management, etc) along with optimal magnesium intake (food, supplements, mineral water) can make a big impact on your long-term term health.

🧪 Annual labs are a starting point. Functional lab
🧪 Annual labs are a starting point.
Functional labs show what’s really going on under the hood.

Most routine blood work is designed to catch disease after it shows up.
At Fredrickson Health Solutions and WellShift, we use more in-depth, strategic lab testing to spot issues earlier — before they turn into symptoms or diagnoses.

🔍 What advanced lab work can reveal:
• Hidden micronutrient deficiencies (magnesium, iron, B vitamins, vitamin D)
• Hormone imbalances impacting energy, weight, sleep, mood, and performance
• Early markers of inflammation, insulin resistance, and cardiometabolic risk
• Thyroid patterns that may be “normal” on paper but not optimal for how you feel

📊 Normal ranges aren’t the same as optimal ranges.
Conventional labs use broad population averages.
We interpret labs through a functional lens, focusing on prevention, performance, and long-term health.

🧪 Basic annual labs are important — but they don’t tell the whole story.
Custom panels help us build a clearer roadmap for your health now and in the future.

🛠️ Prevention is always easier than repair.

👇 Comment “LABS” and we’ll send you details on what a personalized blood work panel may look like through Fredrickson Health Solutions or WellShift.

Feeling stressed for “no reason”? Tension, restles
Feeling stressed for “no reason”?
Tension, restless sleep, anxiety that won’t chill out?

It might not just be stress — it could be low magnesium.

Here’s what most people never hear:
📉 Chronic stress depletes magnesium
📉 Low magnesium makes stress worse
➡️ Then your body dumps even more magnesium through your kidneys

It creates a loop:
Stress drains magnesium → low magnesium amplifies stress.

So how do we break the stress depleting magnesium cycle?

1) Start With Food Sources

Build magnesium into every day by prioritizing:

🥑 Avocado
🥬 Spinach & leafy greens
🫘 Black beans, lentils
🍫 Dark chocolate (70%+)
🥜 Almonds, cashews, pumpkin seeds
🐟 Wild salmon
🌾 Whole grains (oats, quinoa)

Aim to pair these with protein + healthy fats for stable blood sugar, which reduces stress hormone spikes.

2) Balance Your Stress Response Naturally

Simple daily habits can dramatically reduce magnesium loss:

🌿 10 minutes of deep breathing (lowers cortisol)
🚶‍♂️ Weighted walking or strength training (not excessive cardio)
☀️ Morning light exposure (hormone balance & sleep quality)
📱 Digital boundaries (less stimulation → calmer brain)

Small consistent habits = big changes in stress chemistry.

⸻

3) Consider Supplementing (If Needed)

Food + lifestyle first.
But if you’re already depleted, supplements can speed results — especially for:

😴 Sleep support
😌 Anxiety & tension
💪 Muscle recovery
🧠 Cognitive performance
🔥 High-stress lifestyles

Quality matters — different forms do different jobs, and not all products are created equal.

What type of magnesium blend product you may want
What type of magnesium blend product you may want to avoid.

When reading magnesium blend labels, the forms are listed from greatest to least — so if you see oxide first, most of your magnesium is probably the cheapest, least absorbable form. 🛑

I prefer blends with just 2–3 forms of magnesium that are known for higher absorption (like glycinate, malate, or threonate) instead of a long list packed with cheaper less bioavailable forms .

✅ Quality matters more than quantity.

Want to keep the weight off and protect your metabolism during a weight loss phase? A weighted vest might be your secret weapon. 🔥

Weighted vest walking is all the rage right now… but is there research to back it? 🦺👟

Actually—yes. 📚 A few key studies show that adding a weighted vest during a weight loss phase can:
✅ Preserve your metabolism so it doesn’t crash
✅ Protect muscle mass while you drop fat
✅ Cut weight regain long after the diet ends

In addition to regular resistance training, this could be a smart strategy if you’re trying to maximize your muscle and metabolism for later—especially if you’re on a structured fat loss plan or coming off GLP-1 medications.

GLP-1 Medications & Magnesium: What You Need to Kn
GLP-1 Medications & Magnesium: What You Need to Know

💉 GLP-1 medications (like semaglutide or tirzepatide) are a class of drugs that mimic the glucagon-like peptide-1 hormone to regulate blood sugar, slow digestion, and reduce appetite — making them highly effective for weight loss and metabolic health.

But here’s what’s not talked about enough 👇

⚠️ These meds can increase your risk of magnesium deficiency — a nutrient most people are already low in. Why? Because you’re eating less, getting less micronutrients, and processing nutrients differently.

Low magnesium signs =
• Muscle cramps
• Fatigue
• Brain fog
• Sleep disturbances
• Slowed recovery
• And yes — constipation

💡 Here’s what I recommend:
🥦 Eat a diet focused on whole, unprocessed foods
💊 Take a daily magnesium supplement — highly absorbable forms like malate, glycinate, or threonate are best
🚽 Keep magnesium citrate on hand if you’re experiencing GLP-1-related constipation — it works quickly and safely

📘 Want to go deeper? My book Magnesium Answers is available now on Amazon — it’s your go-to guide to fixing deficiency and optimizing health the right way.

I’ve been talking about this a lot lately and have targeted nutrition and supplement protocols for people on GLP-1s — designed to:

✅ Maintain micronutrient status
✅ Sustain lean body mass
✅ Prevent rebound weight gain if you stop taking the medication

👉 If you’re using GLP-1s and want extra nutrition support, don’t hesitate to reach out. See you on the next one!
